Colonel Miller is a Master Air Battle Manager, and the Commander of the 224th Air Defense Group assigned to the Eastern Air Defense Sector, Rome, N.Y. EADS is one of two North American Aerospace Defense, or NORAD, air defense sectors in the Continental United States and reports directly to First Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla. EADS is responsible for the aerospace defense of the eastern United States to include the national capital region around Washington, D.C., and supports NORAD’s Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment and U.S. Northern Command’s homeland defense missions.
Colonel Miller enlisted in the Air Force in February 1996 and reported to Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB, Texas, in April 1996. During his time in the enlisted corps, he served as a Travel Technician in the 305th Comptroller Squadron, McGuire AFB, N.J, a Financial Management Journeyman in the 174th Fighter Wing, Hancock Air National Guard Base, Syracuse, New York, a Military Pay Journeyman at Macdill AFB. Fla., and an Enlisted Accession Recruiter in the 313th Recruiting Squadron, Syracuse, N.Y, recruiting in the Potsdam, N.Y., area.
Colonel Miller earned his bachelor's degree in general studies and his M.B.A from Columbia College, Syracuse N.Y., in 2005 and 2009 respectively. While serving as an Aerospace Warning and Control Systems Journeyman in 2007, he was selected to commission as an Air Force officer through the Academy of Military Science at McGhee Tyson ANG base Tenn. and serve in the New York Air National Guard as an active guardsman. Upon commissioning and following Undergraduate Air Battle Manager training at Tyndall AFB, Fla., he served as an Air Battle Manager with the 224th Air Defense Squadron, Rome, N.Y. In 2011, he upgraded to Senior Director and later instructor and served in these roles for two years before being selected to serve as the Assistant Chief of Exercises and Analysis in 2014 and later the Assistant Chief of Standards & Evaluation in 2017 for the 224th Air Defense Squadron. Colonel Miller has been the Assistant Flight Commander for both Alpha and Bravo Flights, the Chief of Weapons and Tactics and the Director of Operations, 224th Air Defense Squadron. He most recently was the Commander of the 224th Air Defense Squadron prior to assuming his current role.
