Lewis, Carson Receive Medals

The 224th Air Defense Group (ADG) recently presented medals for outstanding performance to two New York Air National Guardsmen.  

  • Tech. Sgt. Eric Lewis, Air Force Commendation Medal. Lewis earned recognition for his outstanding tactical and instructional work. Over a three-year period, Lewis expertly worked more than 260 air defense missions, while providing 300 hours of instruction to 26 student Airmen. Lewis also directed the safe recovery of a pilot and aircraft during a fighter emergency.
  • Tech. Sgt. Michael Carson, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. The 224th ADG’s Honor Guard program manager, Carson demonstrated extraordinary dedication and initiative in planning, organizing and leading more than 50 Honor Guard details in the last 18 months. These details included flag presentations at large, public events and providing final honors at nearly 30 funerals for local veterans.

The 224th ADG is composed of the 224th Air Defense Squadron and 224th Support Squadron, located in Rome, and Detachment 1 and Detachment 2 that serve in the Washington, D.C. area. The 224th ADG provides the forces to conduct the Eastern Air Defense Sector’s (EADS) mission. Part of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the Sector is responsible for the air defense of the eastern U.S.
