224th ADG promotes 10 Airmen

Major General Raymond F. Shields, the Adjutant General for the State of New York, announces the recent promotion of 10 Airmen at the New York Air National Guard’s 224th Air Defense Group (ADG) in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

Promoted Airmen, identified by their new ranks, included:

  • Senior Master Sgt. Evan Thorn. Thorn is an assistant flight superintendent with the 224th Air Defense Squadron (ADS).
  • Master Sgt. Timothy Deckard. Deckard is the Current Operations Section Chief at the 224th Air Defense Squadron (ADS).
  • Tech. Sgt. Chis Dorion. Dorion is a cyber technician with the 224th Support Squadron’s (SPTS) Mission Defense Team.
  • Tech. Sgt. Jovan Wimberly. Wimberly is a cyber transmission systems technician with the 224th Support Squadron (SPTS).
  • Staff Sgt. Maynard Brown. Brown is a communications technician at the 224th Support Squadron (SPTS).
  • Staff Sgt. David Redner. Redner is a Security Forces journeyman at the 224th Support Squadron (SPTS).
  • Staff Sgt. Garrett Reilley. Reilley is an identification technician at the 224th Air Defense Squadron.
  • Senior Airman Raven Buchwald. Buchwald is a cyber systems technician at the 224th Support Squadron (SPTS).
  • Senior Airman Zachary Houle. Houle is a Security Forces journeyman with the 224th Support Squadron (SPTS).
  • Senior Airman Nathan Kling. Kling is a Security Forces journeyman at the 224th Support Squadron (SPTS).

The 224th Air Defense Group is composed of the 224th Air Defense Squadron and the 224th Support Squadron, located in Rome, and Detachment 1 and Detachment 2 that serve in the Washington, D.C. area. The 224th ADG provides the forces to conduct the Eastern Air Defense Sector’s (EADS) mission. Part of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the Sector is responsible for the air defense of the eastern U.S.
